Apple seems to be seriously working on a much broader smart home strategy. While HomeKit and the Home app have been the basis for years, the company is now rumored to be launching a series of its own products that make the smart home more visible, more practical and, above all, more Apple.
The timing is not coincidental. Apple has been working for some time on hardware that is better suited to the next version of Siri and to a home in which devices not only respond to commands, but also work together smarter. This slowly creates a total picture in which Apple TV, HomePod and new home accessories together play one clear role.
New Apple TV 4K
The Apple TV probably remains one of the most important building blocks for Apple’s smart home. Not only as a media box, but also as a home hub that makes your accessories accessible remotely and runs automations.
A new model should mainly provide faster performance and better support for the latest functions in the Home app.
This means that Apple TV remains a silent force in the background, but an indispensable link in a household with HomeKit or Matter accessories. There are also rumors that Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are coming to the Apple TV, allowing you to get even more out of your smart home.
HomePod mini 2
For many users, the HomePod mini is still the most accessible way to control Apple’s smart home. A successor is therefore obvious, especially now that Apple wants to increasingly link its home products to Siri and automation.
A new HomePod mini can become more than a compact speaker. Think better sound quality, faster processing and even stronger connections with other devices in the home, so that voice control and background automation feel smoother. The support of Apple Intelligence and Siri Ai will also play an important role.
Smart home screen
The most striking product in the rumor stream is still Apple’s smart home screen. According to the plans, that device should become a central control point for the home, with a screen, Siri, widgets and control of daily tasks in one place.
This finally gives Apple a visible anchor point in the living room or kitchen. Instead of separate accessories and hidden hubs, there will be a fixed screen that shows what is happening in the house and provides direct access to music, cameras, agendas and automations.
Smart security camera
The market for Smart Home cameras is large. For example, the Eufy security cameras, Arlo camera and the Hue Secure camera are popular. However, Apple believes that the market is not yet saturated and they want to release their own smart IP camera in the long term.
Having its own smart security camera would be a very important step for Apple. This allows the company not only to compete with existing brands, but also to show what a camera should look like within the Apple environment: private, tightly integrated and easy to use.
There is a good chance that such a camera works closely with HomeKit Secure video and notifications in the Home app. That’s where Apple’s strength lies: not necessarily the most features, but the most consistent experience for users who want to manage their entire home through one ecosystem.
Smart doorbell with Face ID
Recent rumors report that Apple is developing a smart doorbell camera. This would even include Face ID that makes it possible to unlock a door lock. The camera could not hit the market until the end of 2026 at the earliest, but a later date is even more realistic.
The camera would work in the same way as the Face ID feature on an iPhone or iPad. As soon as a resident’s biometric data is recognized, the smart door lock is opened. Whether this will be an Apple door lock is unknown, but it may work with smart locks that support matter such as Nuki and SwitchBot.
Availability of smart home products
The exact timing of the launch of the new smart home products is still unclear. It looks like Apple will announce the new Apple TV and HomePod mini this fall. Furthermore, Apple’s smart home hub may become available this year or next spring. The other products are probably not expected until or after 2027.
