Although the car industry is beeping and cracking due to the chip shortage, Lamborghini is doing better than ever before. CEO Stephan Winkelmann states that there are hardly any production places left for this year.
The global chip shortage is mainly felt by car manufacturers who have to rely on large volumes and relatively little margin per car. Manufacturers of exclusive cars are much less affected by this and this is also apparent from the sales figures of brands such as Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini. They all ran a record year in 2021. At Lamborghini, which recorded a sales increase of 13 percent with 8,405 cars sold last year, the flag can actually be raised before 2022. This is apparent from the words of CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “We are in the fortunate position of being close to sold out by 2022. We are about a year ahead of the order,” he told Automobilwoche.
The fact that the production places are almost sold out is indeed good news for the Italians, but at the same time it also brings a certain concern. According to Winkelmann, options should be looked at to be able to serve even more customers, because otherwise Lamborghini will also have to explain longer waiting times. Winkelmann hopes to keep it within an acceptable framework: “We are currently investigating whether we can increase production and add something to this, so that the waiting time for customers does not exceed a year.” This would possibly involve a production increase of several hundred cars.
