Lamborghini resumes Aventador production due to shipping disaster

Lamborghini temporarily resumes production of the Aventador. Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann reports this in a conversation with various media, including Automotive News. With this, the brand is compensating for the copies that were lost due to the disaster with the car ship Felicity Ace.

The Aventador had already been retired by Lamborghini. The bull brand waved off the successful supercar with the LP 780-4 Ultimae, basically a combination of the Aventador S and SVJ. On board the Felicity Ace were 15 Aventador Ultimae’s. However, disaster struck: the ship caught fire and eventually sank during the salvage attempt, losing all the cars on board. Winkelmann confirms that Lamborghini will replace all 15 copies and that the brand will restart production of the Aventador.

“We put our heads together, and luckily we can replace these cars, so there is no loss to our customers in America from the sunken ship,” said Winkelmann. “It was difficult with the Aventador, but we made it.” Customers will have to wait longer before they can receive their Aventador. Winkelmann does not yet give an indication of how long it will take Lamborghini to rebuild the lost Aventadors.

In addition to the 15 Aventadors, the ship also brought 85 Urus to America. Those cars will also be replaced, as will the 189 Bentleys that were on board the ship. Bentley says it already has a solution for half of those cars and expects to replace the other half within six months. The other cargo of the ship mainly consisted of Porsches, Volkswagens and Audis. Audi must absorb the loss of about 1,800 cars. “We can replace that,” said Audi CEO Markus Duesmann. “It takes some time, but we’re doing our best.”
