‘High demand for Apple Watch for children’
According to an recent New York Times article Apple will announce an Apple Watch for children during the iPhone 14 event tomorrow. The newspaper’s story does not come out of the blue. Several (former) employees of electronics stores said that parents regularly came to ask for an Apple Watch for their children.
‘Apple Watch for kids cheaper than Watch SE’
The Apple Watch enables parents to track their children and the children can then call with the smartwatch (in case of emergency). Whether you should always monitor your child at all, however, seems to us to be a matter for educational scientists.
Cheap kids watch can make calls via Family Setup
The fact that the cheap Apple Watch can still make calls without an iPhone nearby is due to Family Setup. This is a feature Apple added with watchOS 7. This option allows you to use all functions, such as calling and texting, without being connected to an iPhone. With the original iPhone with which you originally set up this Family Setup, you can still follow the Apple Watch with the ‘Find My’ function.
According to the New York Times article, the reason Apple has taken three years to implement this feature is due to concerns about battery life. Without an iPhone nearby, this Apple Watch for kids would have to do all the tasks all by itself. That demands a lot from the battery.
The price of the new Apple Watch SE
More details about this cheaper Apple Watch are still unclear at the moment. We don’t even know if this smartwatch will come out at all. The New York Times report says Apple can release an Apple Watch with Family Sharing support for less than $279. The price of the future Apple Watch SE 2022 is estimated at 319 euros.
