Last year, 1.5 billion euros in traffic damage

Last year, the economic damage caused by delays in freight traffic on the main road network rose to a record of no less than € 1.5 billion, it reports AD.

Transport will experience less disruption this year as a result of the corona crisis, but after that the damage will increase again at a rapid pace, the business community expects. The damage was 7 percent higher in 2019 than a year earlier. The costs of the travel time losses caused by trucks were more than € 468 million.

There were also costs of detours and unreliable travel times of around € 750 million. Together with indirect costs, the total damage amounted to between € 1.2 billion and more than € 1.5 billion, according to calculations by research agency Panteia.

Entrepreneurial organizations Transport and Logistics Netherlands (TLN) and evofenedex are therefore asking the government to continue implementing the investment program in major traffic projects. Especially when the economy soon picks up again, freight traffic will again get stuck in traffic jams.
