Latest macOS update disrupts sharing function, here’s how to fix it

Apple yesterday released a macOS High Sierra update that fixes a critical vulnerability. Now it appears that this update itself also causes some problems for a number of users. This ensures that you can no longer share files. This is how you solve this.

macOS file sharing bug discovered

Yesterday an interim emergency update was released for all macOS High Sierra users. It contained a fix for a bug that allowed an outsider to log in without a password, with all its consequences.

Apple (and we) therefore recommend that everyone install this update as soon as possible, so that your files are safe again. However, it now appears that this new version of High Sierra has its own problem. The update messes up the sharing function you need to transfer files from one Mac to another.

Latest macOS update disrupts sharing function, here’s how to fix it

The problems only seem to crop up in version 10.13.1 of High Sierra. On a new support page, Apple explains how to fix this, while we wait for a new update.

Here’s how to fix the new High Sierra bug:

  1. Open the Terminal app (or find it via the Spotlight feature);
  2. Type the following text in the Terminal window (without quotes): ‘/ usr / libexec / configureLocalKDC‘;
  3. Press Enter;
  4. Enter your administrator password and log in;
  5. Close the Terminal app.

This should be enough to fix the bug. We would like to emphasize that this bug in version 10.13.1 should not be the reason to delay updating. The vulnerability in the previous version of High Sierra is many times more dangerous than this relatively minor flaw.
