The Lexus ES has a fairly long history in the rest of the world, but has only been available in our country since 2018, when the Japanese introduced the seventh generation. Last year Lexus thought it was time for a facelift of the sedan, with the front being colored slightly differently. An improvement?
You may wonder whether Lexus has missed much in our country with the first six generations of the ES. A total of 423 copies of the sedan have been sold in the period of more than three years that it has been on the market. A sales topper is different.
Compared to the sixth generation, however, the ES changed quite a bit. In line with the other Lexuses, it got sharp headlights, a large grille and a sporty version: the F Sport. With the facelift, the appearance of the ES was not rigorously changed. At first glance, only a trained eye will be able to spot the differences. But get started with the slider below and they are there. For example, the grille is now made up of vertical slats that have small branches. This makes it seem as if the grille of the ES also has horizontal slats, although the branches are not connected to each other. Remarkably enough, the grille of the F Sport (photo 9) did not change compared to the pre-facelift (photo 10).
In addition, Lexus sent the ES to the optician for other viewers. The shape of the headlights is the same, but the daytime running lights start further out from the grille and the top point now runs completely under the low beams. That matrix LED lighting still consists of six pips, but from now on they are rectangular and available with BladeScan technology, in which rapidly rotating mirrors in the light units provide a better light output.
As for the exterior of the ES, the changes stop there. Inside, Lexus installed another screen for the infotainment, which is closer to the driver and can now handle Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The layout of the dashboard also changes slightly, because the molding around the central ventilation grilles no longer runs towards the passenger side.
Do you prefer the ES in its new style, or do you prefer the old? Vote!
