Lexus takes back the throne from Suzuki

Like Toyota, Lexus has the reputation of being a fairly reliable car brand. The brand proves this in 2024 by dethroning Suzuki as the most reliable car brand. This is evident from an extensive international survey by the Consumers’ Association.
Every year, the Consumers’ Association conducts a survey among the members of what it calls its Autopanel. The consumer organization wants to map the reliability of car brands and models in the Netherlands. In 2022, Suzuki was named the most reliable car brand by the Consumers’ Association. In 2024 it will be Lexus that will take that title. The most reliable car model according to the research also has a Lexus badge on its nose. That title goes to the previous generation Lexus NX that was delivered in our country between 2014 and 2021.
Lexus can call itself the absolute reliability king in 2024. The brand scored a score of – hold on – 9.6. In 2022, Suzuki was in first place with a score of 8.5. Suzuki will end up in a very respectable second place in 2024 with a score of 9.
The Japanese brands are well represented in the top 10 of most reliable car brands. Places three and four go to Subaru and Toyota, respectively. Kia and – perhaps surprisingly – Smart share fifth place. BMW is the highest-ranked German brand in the list, although it ranks eighth – together with DS, Mazda and Mini. Tesla shares its place in the ranking of most reliable car brands with Hyundai. Hyundai and Tesla share twelfth place with a score of 7.6. Peugeot-Citroën, Opel and Land Rover dangle at the bottom of the list. Volkswagen – certainly not a small player – ends up in the study in seventeenth place, shared with Ford and Lancia.

Important information about the test results: the survey was specifically about passenger cars built from 2011 to early 2023. The Consumers’ Association asked how many times owners had a breakdown with their car in the past year, the type of defect and its severity. According to the Consumers’ Association, the judgments were corrected based on, among other things, the age of the car and the number of kilometers driven per year.
This year, for the first time, we also worked with international partners, the Consumers’ Association explains. This means, among other things, that more car owners participated in the survey and that the scores are not fully comparable with those of last year. This year we were asked about defects over the entire period of ownership and not just about those that occurred in the last year. A total of 30,000 car owners participated in the survey.
