Lexus NX far too early to see fully

We fear that at Lexus in Japan some office objects have been thrown through a room, because an official video of the brand new Lexus NX has somehow found its way to the internet. That’s why the next NX is already on display in full.

We thank a certain Reddit user operating under the name F1_Geek for his attentiveness. He managed to pop up a video on YouTube where the brand new Lexus NX can already be seen in its entirety. Although that video has now been removed, we still managed to take some screenshots in time. So, see here: the new NX!

The new NX is only on the roll for a reveal towards the end of this year. The car was only spotted heavily camouflaged for the first time last month. Thanks to these leaked images, we see that the NX is exchanging some of its extravagant design details of the moment for a slightly more conventional but clearly recognizable as Lexus body. In the interior, it is particularly noticeable that Lexus has taken a close look at fellow group Toyota, especially the similarities with the dashboard of the Mirai are undeniable. All in all, it looks completely up to date again, not least because of the large infotainment screen.

Lexus NX

If we pay attention to some details such as the C-pillar, the roofline and the overall shape of the NX, we cannot escape the impression that there is still a lot of the current NX to spot. It would therefore not surprise us if this is an extremely thorough facelift instead of a new generation to the last nut. With the new IS, Lexus also went for such an approach, despite the almost as old basis as that of the 2014 NX. However, don’t pin us down on it. Earlier reports spoke of a completely different basis; the GA-K base which, among others, the current Toyota RAV4 also uses.

Hybrid and plug-in hybrid

It is also interesting that Lexus also provided some information about the drive of the NX in the video taken offline. For example, we can expect at least a 350h. If the new NX does indeed share its platform with the RAV4, we can probably count on a 2.5 four-cylinder that, together with an electric motor, delivers 218 hp (for the fwd), or 222 hp in the case of the four-wheel drive version.

What’s interesting is that the video already gives away that there will also be a plug-in hybrid version of the NX. Which listens to the name 450h +. Again, assuming a relationship with the Toyota RAV4, we would then expect an interplay between the 2.5 and a 182 hp electric motor, generating a system power of 306 hp. In the case of the RAV4, 75 km of fully electric driving (WLTP) is thus possible.

Whether Lexus is bringing forward the NX reveal remains to be seen. In any case, we already have a decent indication of what is going to happen.
