Front-wheel drive

The Lexus RZ 300e, a new variant with only front-wheel drive, will also come to Europe in the spring of 2024. The manufacturer announced this during the so-called Kenshiki Forum, where some of the news of the coming years for both Toyota and Lexus is presented.
On Friday we already found the specifications of the entry-level version of the electric Lexus RZ. The 300e has front-wheel drive, 204 hp and the 71.4 kWh battery pack that is also in the more powerful RZ450e. Lexus wants to accelerate with new EVs in the coming years. The brand previously showed the LF ZC and the LF ZL and recently registered the name HZ for an EV. The additions 300e, 450e and 550e were also registered with that name registration.
Lexus may be fully electric in Europe by 2030. It also aims to only offer SUVs worldwide by 2035.
In the earlier message about the LF ZC, which will be available as a production model in 2026, we already reported that production is done via the gigacasting principle. The front, middle and rear parts are each cast from one part. This provides extra stiffness, but also makes production more efficient. Another innovation in production: the car already drives autonomously from one process to another during production. According to Lexus, Gigacasting also provides cheaper damage repairs for minor collisions at the front and rear.
