5 NCAP stars for Lexus’ electric SUV

Lexus RZ professionally and successfully destroyed

The crash-loving gentlemen and ladies of Euro NCAP have subjected the electric Lexus RZ to their safety tests. The result is not entirely surprising. The Lexus RZ was of course destroyed, but returned home with the maximum possible score of five stars.

The Lexus RZ is the technical brother of the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, but unlike those two EVs, it does have its own completely unique body. The bZ4X and Solterra already received five NCAP stars in November last year and now the Lexus RZ has also achieved that top score.

In the ‘safety for adult occupants’ category, the Lexus RZ achieved 87 percent of the possible points. When it comes to safety for children in the car, the RZ also scored 87 percent of the possible points. Pedestrian safety and that of other road users were rated at 84 percent of the maximum possible score. In terms of safety systems, the electric SUV achieved 81 percent of the achievable points. NCAP praised, among other things, the presence of the Child Presence Detection system in the RZ, which gives a warning signal if you leave the car and there is still a child in the back seat.

Did Euro NCAP have nothing to criticize at all about the Lexus RZ? Yes. For example, Euro NCAP criticized the RZ for, among other things, the ‘weak’ protection of the chest of rear passengers in the event of a frontal collision and also in the test in which the RZ’s side hits a pole, Euro NCAP was not entirely satisfied with the ‘marginal level of protection’. that the car offers the rear passenger here.
