Lexus will unveil an all-new version of its largest SUV, the Lexus LX, on October 14. The luxury brother of the Land Cruiser is especially popular in the Middle East and is therefore also presented in that region.
The newcomer will be unveiled within a week and is already showing his backside. That’s interesting, because now we know that the car is called ‘LX 600’. This gives the type designation another update, because the current generation is called LX 570. Now that number also stands for a 5.7-liter V8, but we expect the relationship between the numbers and the engine to be broken with the new model. So don’t expect a 6.0-liter, but perhaps ‘just’ the blown V6 that already delivers more power in the Land Cruiser than the old V8.
Although the Lexus LX will share a large part of its body, interior and technology with the Land Cruiser, the car will have its own head and ass. The rear obviously shows similarities with that of the new NX, because that car shows where Lexus is going in the coming years. We also see a continuous rear light bar on the LX, above which the word ‘Lexus’ is written. As with the Land Cruiser, the tailgate now consists of one piece, where a so-called ‘split tailgate’ was previously used.
The Lexus LX is a traditional, huge and very capable off-road executioner and therefore totally unsuitable for Western Europe. In Russia, however, they like it and there are also plenty of customers to find in the US. However, the center of gravity seems to be in the Middle East, so the new LX is experiencing its baptism of fire at events in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
