Lexus the most reliable car brand, Tesla the least

Japanese car brands generally have a high reputation for reliability. Lexus maintains the reputation of Japanese build quality. It emerged from research in five European countries as the most reliable car brand.

The Belgian consumer organization Test Aankoop has conducted a survey among 60,000 car owners in five European countries into the number of defects their car had to contend with. The majority of the reported problems related to the electronics. Also problems with braking and defects in the drivetrain generally scored high.

Lexus can be proud of itself, because it comes out as a car brand with the fewest problems. According to the survey, only 6 percent of Lexus owners had to visit the garage during the warranty period because of a defect or malfunction. It is not the first time that Lexus has finished in the highest place in the Test Aankoop survey, as the brand also won the biennial survey in 2020 and 2018. This year, Lexus was also the winner of the annual reliability survey by the American JD Power. The brand ended before Porsche, which in the Inquiry of Test Purchase is in 27th place.

Japanese and Koreans in the lead

Subaru finishes in second behind Lexus, followed by Toyota in third and Mitsubishi in fourth. Almost the entire Top 10 consists of Asian manufacturers. In place 5 we come across Kia, where Suzuki is behind with a listing in sixth place. Places seven and eight are successively for Hyundai and Honda, Mazda follows in place nine. Seat is the only non-Japanese or Korean manufacturer in the Top 10 and is immediately behind in place 10.

Undoubtedly, Tesla is less happy with the results of the Test Aankoop research, because this brand is at the bottom of the reliability list. Remarkably, Tesla scores the highest after Porsche under the heading ‘satisfaction’.
