LG, a company that normally makes TVs, washing machines, refrigerators and telephones, is coming with its own living room on wheels: the LG Vision Omnipod. This mobile living room even has a personal digital assistant on board. In addition to the Omnipod, LG is also showing a digital dashboard for use in the automotive industry.

The Omnipod is a futuristic mobility concept for an era of fully autonomous driving. The design is pretty straightforward: the Omnipod is in fact just a moving box with an upright front and rear window. To the right are two large French doors that open up and down. This offers a spacious entry into the interior of the Omnipod, consisting of a large lounge and a separate workspace for the ‘driver’ in the front. Entirely in line with other autonomous concepts, the Omnipod does not have any form of manual control.

LG stuffs the Omnipod with technology. In the center of the lounge, next to a comfortable lounger, is a large vertical screen with the digital assistant Reah. She can help you with various matters, even guiding a workout is possible. LG also makes generous use of mood lighting in the interior. Also nice: a minibar with champagne bottles in it. After all, drinking and driving at the same time is no longer a problem when the car does the work. LG does not mention what kind of powertrain the Omnipod has, but given LG’s extensive experience in producing batteries, it is obvious that there is its own battery in the bottom.

The idea of the ‘moving living room’ is not new in itself: we have already seen cars such as the Mini Vision Urbanaut before. With the Omnipod, LG seems to be preparing for a possible future as a car manufacturer. Tech companies are increasingly entering the car industry, which is also well illustrated by the two Sony concept cars presented this week. In addition, there are of course the rumors surrounding Apple’s car, which is still surrounded by a thick fog.

Alternative to Hyperscreen

In addition to the Omnipod, which is actually mainly a vision of the future, LG is also showing a more concrete product for the car industry: the LG Cockpit. The LG Cockpit consists of three concatenated screens, just like the Hyperscreen in the Mercedes-Benz EQS. LG also says it has developed its own interface. It is not yet clear which cars the LG Cockpit will eventually end up in.
