How a puzzle with only lines and colors can still offer an adventurous feeling. Linelight does it just right.
Experience a puzzle adventure
Linelight appeared on consoles and PC earlier this year, but developer My Dog Zorro ported the game very well to mobile systems. Linelight comes into its own perfectly on the iPhone.
In the game, swipe your finger across the screen to drag an illuminated line in the right direction. That is always about a line. Basically it is simple: you have to follow the line and avoid obstacles along the way. You also slide over links to move platforms and make enemy red lines work in your favor. In the meantime you collect colored checks.
Draw lines
That of course sounds simpler than it is. Complex puzzles can be made with the play of lines, which looks like an electronic network. The difficulty level is built up slowly, in the first few levels you learn the basic rules of Linelight. This is done without explanation, but completely playfully. Only when you understand it and can apply it do you proceed.
This of course applies to all puzzles in the game. There are three worlds in total, with dozens of levels in them. These levels are separate puzzles, but they are always connected by one line. This gives you as a player the feeling that you are actually walking through a line world with the light. The way Linelight is structured surprises: even enemies come to life when you ‘race’ against an evil line, while in the meantime you have to work together to progress. That produces exciting moments.

Linelight is one of the best puzzle games on iOS of this year, also because it is very clever to add feeling to a set of lines. In addition, the soundtrack is electronic and soothing, which completes the whole.
