The function to send songs on Spotify directly to Sonos speakers has been available in beta for a while. Now the option is there for all Spotify Premium users.
Spotify on Sonos
Spotify Connect is available immediately for Premium members with a Sonos speaker at home. Spotify announced this in a press release. “Spotify Premium users can control their Sonos directly from the Spotify app via Spotify Connect,” the press release reports. An update for the Sonos app is now available in the App Store, making the function available.
Previously, it was not possible to send Spotify to the Sonos via the Spotify app. To do this, users had to work from the Sonos app. That worked in itself, but it also had some disadvantages. For example, it was not possible to listen to certain playlists, such as the Daily Mix.
This is how Spotify Connect works with Sonos
You can (very) briefly see above how the function works. Below we explain it in more detail for you:
- Then make sure you have the latest version of the Spotify and Sonos app;
- Open the Sonos app and update it if necessary;
- If you haven’t done it yet, log in to your Sonos account and connect to your speaker;
- Open the Spotify app and choose a song, album or playlist;
- Tap play and choose ‘Devices available’ under the play button;
- When everything is linked, you will find your Sonos system here;
- Tap the name of your speaker and the music will be played through Sonos.
Also on the Mac
The new feature is good news for people who prefer to stay in the Spotify environment to play music. In addition to the iOS app, the function is now also available for the Mac. Make sure your apps are on the most recent version and that accounts and speakers are linked.
