Up to 600 kilometers electrically

In the quest for the holy grail of sustainability, more and more car manufacturers are incorporating things like recycled PET bottles and plastic from recycled fishing nets into their models. The Spanish Liux goes a step further. In its own words, it has developed the first ‘vegetable car’ in the world.
Liux is a Spanish start-up that tries to win the hearts of European consumers by introducing a ‘vegetable car’. We are digitally introduced to the Animal, the first model of the ambitious Spaniards.
The Liux Animal largely comes from the 3D printer of its creators. These 3D printers model the parts needed for the body, the interior and large parts of the suspension, among other things, from ‘biopolymers and biocomposites based on natural fibers and resins’. In total, 90 percent of the Animal must be made from natural or recycled materials. Liux also talks about the use of materials such as cork and linen. According to Liux, large parts of the Animal are easy to attach and therefore also easy to replace. The start-up claims that it uses 25 percent fewer parts in the Animal than in a conventionally produced car. According to the start-up, the production of one Animal requires 70 percent less energy than a ‘normal car’.
Liux Animal
The Animal is an electric station-like that is already proposed by Liux in various flavors. The Liux Animal is available as a Habitat and as a Wild. The first is 190 hp strong, has a top speed of 180 km / h and has a range of up to 300 km on a full battery. The Wild is the more exciting of the bunch and has a 240 hp electric motor that helps the Animal to a top speed of 200 km / h. This variant also comes 300 kilometers away on a full battery pack and – for the time being on paper – has, among other things, a sports suspension, extra potent brakes, special wheels and a so-called ‘beast mode’ in which the Animal shows its wildest side.
According to Liux, something special is going on with the batteries. They are relatively easy to attach and, according to the Spaniards, they are easy to replace. Both versions of the Liux Animal are available with batteries divided over two parts and with batteries built up from four pieces. If you go for the variant with four parts, the range increases to 600 kilometers. You do pay an additional cost of €9,000 for this extra set of batteries. The intended starting price of the Liux Animal is €39,000 (Habitat). The more powerful Wild has an expected starting price of €45,000.
Liux says the Animal will hit the market in the first quarter of 2024. Those who make a deposit of €200 can already reserve the Animal. We are curious if Liux will actually manage to bring the Animal to the market.
