Logging in with your DigiD has become a lot easier from today. The Dutch government has released a DigiD app with which you can log in quickly from now on. We show how the DigiD app works.
DigiD app lets you log in quickly and securely
If you log in to DigiD, there is a good chance that you have forgotten the password. The government recognizes this and therefore releases a DigiD app for iOS and Android. Once you have set it up, you can use the app to scan a QR code and use it to log in securely.
Before you can do this, you have to set up the app. Follow the steps below to activate the DigiD app. Make sure you have the SMS control turned on, otherwise the app will not work.
This is how you set up the DigiD app
- Go to mijn.digid.nl on another device, for example your MacBook or iMac;
- Log in with your DigiD account;
- Click on Login methods and select Activate DigiD app;
- Open the DigiD app on your iPhone and complete the home screen;
- Point your iPhone camera at the QR code on your computer screen.
Now that the app is linked to your DigiD account, you can now use it to log in. As a result, your password and verification code are no longer required to gain access to your data on government sites such as Studielink, DUO, Tax Authorities or Benefits. You can use the DigiD app on all iDevices that run on iOS 9 or higher.
The DigiD app makes it a lot easier to log in to the government services quickly. In addition, the method is safe because your iPhone acts as an external device to show that you are the one who is logging into your account.
