Last month, Skoda announced that the curtain is falling for the beloved Fabia Combi, with the result that the range of new station wagons in the B-segment has been reduced to zero. Let’s take a look at what can still be achieved in that popular niche market for a maximum of €10,000.
Space wonder
Skoda Fabia Combi 1.2 TSI
€9,850
2016
97,092 km
Of course, we cannot ignore the Fabia Combi in this segment, so we kick off with the last generation that the Czechs have put on the market. This example is just within our budget and that makes us happy, because you don’t often find a Fabia with this exuberant green paint. It is already black and silver that is the clock on the used market and then this striking frog is a very nice and striking appearance. Although the Fabia is ‘only’ a B-segmenter, this model can safely be called a space miracle, especially in the Combi version. There’s more than enough room for all passengers to hold out in comfort, and the boot offers a hefty 530 litres, which is increased to 1,395 litres with the rear seats flat. If you look at the photos, this original Dutch example looks neat both inside and out.
Appearances are deceiving
Seat Ibiza ST FR
€9.250
2014
75,915 km
This sleek-looking Seat Ibiza ST comes from the same stable as the Fabia, but has been given a sportier FR sauce. As a result, this Spaniard shines on large alloy wheels with blue painted brake calipers and it is also just a bit lower to the ground thanks to the sports suspension. That’s where the sporting aspirations end. Given the modest 86 hp, it is mainly muscle language for the stage, because he is certainly not fast. The interior looks sleek, businesslike and by today’s standards very dated. Compared to its sober Fabia brother, the interior space for the rear passengers in particular is more limited and the trunk with 430 liters is also considerably smaller. This occasion has, among other things, cruise control, climate control and tinted windows at the rear. At the front is the well-known 1.2 TSI block, which takes the car to 100 km/h in 11.7 seconds and is good for a top speed of 180 km/h.

Renault Clio Estate 0.9 TCe
€9.945
2016
74,282 km
In the segment of the compact station wagon, we can of course not ignore the success of Renault. Just like the Fabia, this Estate variant is unfortunately no longer in the Renault price list. The fourth generation Clio came on the market at the end of 2012, but you can’t see that at all. This tasteful appearance comes from the hand of compatriot Laurens van den Acker and that gives this Frenchman a nice Dutch touch. We have found this copy, which is in very good condition. The color Rouge Flamme suits him perfectly. After all these years, the Clio IV still doesn’t look dated on the outside, but the interior does reveal that this is a Clio from the previous model series; it is not exactly of this time anymore. The luggage compartment measures 443 liters and with that it dives right into the gap between the Fabia and the Ibiza.
