Tradition upheld
Since the introduction of the Eleven, the model name of every Lotus starts with the letter ‘E’. Lotus is therefore obliged to its stand not to deviate from that tradition when naming its first electric SUV. That Lotus that breaks with everything the brand once stood for is called: Eletre.
Lotus will soon no longer be the Lotus that you have known for years. The brand comes with a whole series of electric models and there are certainly not only lightweight sports models. Although Lotus has an electric sports car in the pipeline, the brand also comes with an electric four-door coupe and two electric SUVs. The first electric SUV will make its public debut on March 29. Until now it was unknown what that electric high-legged of the brand will be called, but that open space has now also been filled: Eletre. Also under the wings of the Chinese Geely, Lotus therefore maintains the tradition of starting the model name of its cars with the letter E.
Although Lotus has only released the Eletre – which previously went through life under the working title Type 132 – in a set of teasers, AutoWeek could recently show you the electric SUV from all angles. Count on an electric SUV with a battery pack of up to 100 kWh. The Eletre does not promise to be a lightweight. Whether such a model would suit Lotus? The English do not lose sleep over this issue. SUVs have delivered great sales at Porsche, Aston Martin, Maserati and even Lamborghini. Lotus and parent company Geely also hope to appeal to a larger audience with the Eletre.
