Lotus is undergoing quite a transformation. The brand is currently preparing its first electric SUV, a car codenamed Type 132. Lotus previously shared teaser images of this, but now the back and dashboard of the SUV can also be seen.

The Type 132 briefly flashes by in the teaser video. The SUV is not very visible, but it is clear that the roofline of the electric Lotus slopes towards the rear and that it has a continuous LED bar as a rear light – completely in line with the current trend. The Type 132 seems to be a fairly angular and sleek car. An earlier photo of the silhouette of the front (photo 6) also seems to indicate this.

Lotus also shows a glimpse of the dashboard and steering wheel. The steering wheel appears to be covered in leather and Alcantara and features a 12 o’clock marker that suggests a sporty character. The steering wheel also has flippers that allow you to adjust the riding modes. The mood lighting behind the steering wheel is also striking. Lotus seems to have opted for a fairly minimalist design, with a large screen in front of the digital counters being omitted. Instead, the SUV has a smaller horizontal screen on which the information is displayed. It could also be that Lotus, like for example the McLaren 720S, opts for a digital dashboard that you can reduce on command or for a large head-up display, but that will have to become apparent at the final unveiling.

The Type 132 will be unveiled soon, so at least we’ll know more soon. The SUV will not remain Lotus’s only EV, as the brand will launch an electric four-door coupe next year and a second electric SUV will be added to the Type 132 in 2024. An electric sports car will not follow until 2026. Lotus EVs will have a battery pack with a maximum capacity of 99.6 kWh and 884 hp in their most powerful form. That is promising!
