Focus on pampering
Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis has pulled the curtain on the Neolun Concept during the currently ongoing New York Auto Show. The Genesis Neolun Concept is a futuristic yet quite production-ready look at a luxury SUV in which you can transport more people immersed in automotive indulgence and space.
The largest SUV that Genesis has in its line-up is called the GV80. The Genesis GV80 is available as a seven-seater, although the seats in the third row at the back are not as spacious as in the second. In SUV country the United States, Genesis has now presented a study model with which it clearly looks ahead to a model above the GV80, an SUV that should treat the rear passengers in particular to more space. The study model goes by the name Neolun, of which the Neo part stands for ‘new’ and ‘lun’ refers to the Latin word for moon: luna. Very nice, but a possible production version will probably just be called GV90.
No introduction of a new study model without the necessary elegant language, which is why Genesis’ marketing arm packs the accompanying letter with elusive descriptions. The Neolun Concept, for example, is inspired by ‘iconic Korean moon-shaped porcelain pots’. Those are not our words, but those of design boss Luc Donckerwolke. The study model has no B-pillars and a purple-colored interior that looks minimalist, but still houses physical buttons. The Genesis has running boards that extend electrically to give passengers access to the interior. Together with the swivel seats that would not look out of place in a private jet, this of course indicates the high level of pampering of the SUV.
More striking things: the Neolun Concept has fold-out displays in the ceiling, extendable roof rails that are normally integrated into the roof and the characteristic Genesis lighting that is not limited to just the front or rear, but also extends far around the corner. The Neolun looks relatively ready for production and we would not be surprised if this study model eventually goes into production in only a mildly modified form.
