MacOS 26 brings major changes to your Mac, but not all models have support – these Macs will at least get the update.
Apple has unveiled macOS 26
Apple has on June 9 during the WWDC 2025 MacOS 26 Tahoe announced. It is about the largest software update of 2025 for the Mac (book), with a whole new design that looks like that of iOS 26 and bears the name Liquid Glass.
Apple has named MacOS 26 after Lake Tahoe in California. That more is known for the reflection from the air and the surrounding mountains, with which Apple refers to the new design of MacOS 26.

These Macs have support for macOS 26
Not all Macs that now have support for macOS 15 Sequoia also have support for macOS 26 Tahoe. As almost always, a few models fall off. These are the Macs that at least have support:
- MacBook Air (2020 and newer)
- MacBook Pro (2020 and newer)
- 16 inch MacBook Pro (2019)
- 13 inch MacBook Pro with 4 USB C-ports (2020)
- iMac (2020 and newer)
- Mac Mini (2020 and newer)
- Mac Studio (2022 and newer)
- Mac Pro (2019 and newer)
These fall off
This time a lot more Macs fall off than last year. And they are all models with Intel chips that have no support for macOS 26 Tahoe. These are them:
- MacBook Air 2020 (Intel)
- 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pro 2018
- 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pro 2019
- 13-inch MacBook Pro 2020 (Intel) with two USB-C ports
- iMac 2019
- Mac Mini 2018
- iMac Pro
To find out which Mac you have, click on the apple in the top left and choose ‘About this Mac’. You now see the model name, with the performance and the year underneath.

You can update in September
At the moment only developers can get started with the latest software version. The final update will only appear in September, then all users can install macOS Tahoe. Do you not want to miss any announcement? Then register for the newsletter, so that you are immediately informed!
