The Mail app in MacOS uses a standard font and size for displaying and writing e-mails. In addition, the previews, lists, menus and the like are also shown in mail in a standard font and size.
In the Mail app, the standard letter size is set to the value ’12’, which is experienced on the small side for many Mac users. You can easily adjust the size and font of e-mails and lists via the Settings of the Mail app.
Adjust font and size of e-mails
You can adjust the standard font and size to your own wishes in macOS. You do this via the Settings of the Mail app.
- Open the mail app on your Mac.
- Go to Mail in the menu bar
- Selecter in the menu The option: Settings.
- Click on the letters and color tab.

In this tab you have three options to adjust the font and size:
- Font frames: Adjust the font and size for the message list.
- Font messages: Change the standard font and the size for the content of e-mails.
- Non-prop. font: Adjust the font and size for flat text messages (and switch on if desired).
NB: Adjusting the standard size does not always work with all messages; For example, you cannot adjust e-mails with an HTML layout.
Customize text size while reading or writing
It is also possible to temporarily increase the text size with the test combination while reading an e-mail Command⌘ + +. Reducing is also possible, for this you use the key combination Command⌘ + –.
Of Command⌘ + 0 Return your back to the standard text size.
