All Macs running macOS Monterey can now install the 12.2.1 update. To do this, click the Apple logo at the top left, go to About This Mac>Software Update, and install the update.

According to Apple’s release notes, macOS Monterey 12.2.1 fixes a bug where Bluetooth devices connected to the Mac caused the MacBook to drain quickly.

Many MacBook users experienced this issue after installing macOS 12.2. They saw their Mac’s battery life go from 100 percent to 0 overnight while the MacBook was in sleep mode.

A bug in the software caused Bluetooth devices to wake up the MacBook every so often. As a result, the MacBook was constantly on and off, which naturally demands a lot from the battery. The only solution was to turn off bluetooth when you’re not using the Mac, but this isn’t ideal, of course.

With the installation of macOS Monterey 12.2.1 the battery problem is gone. It was previously noted that Apple had fixed the bug in the macOS 12.3 beta 2, this update is likely to be released in mid-March.

Even if the battery problem didn’t bother you, it’s a good idea to install macOS Monterey 12.2.1 quickly. The software also fixes a WebKit issue, where processing malicious web content could lead to arbitrary code execution.

In addition to this Mac update, Apple also released interim updates for the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch:

  • iOS 15.3.1 and iPadOS 15.3.1 Now Available: Important Security Updates
  • Apple watchOS 8.4.2 is out: this is what’s new in the update
