It’s been a while, but now we can finally say for sure: macOS Monterey 12.3 is out. In this article, we’ll tell you what’s new, why you should download the update, and how to install it. You can install the update on any Mac that already supported the 12.0 version of macOS Monterey. These are:
- 12-inch MacBook (2015 and newer)
- MacBook Air (2013 and newer)
- MacBook Pro (2013 and newer)
- Mac mini (2014 and newer)
- iMac (2014 and newer)
- Mac Pro (2013 and newer)
macOS Monterey 12.3: These Three Features Are New
First, it is always a good idea to download new software for your Apple devices as soon as possible. It may seem that there is not much news, but security updates are likely to be implemented. There are noticeable changes with macOS Monterey 12.3.
The most interesting addition is ‘universal control’ (Universal Control). This feature has also appeared for your iPad. You can now control your Mac and iPad with the same mouse and keyboard. This not only makes operating both devices easier; it also allows you to drag and drop files from one device to another using the drag & drop feature.
A whole bunch of emojis have also appeared on all Apple devices. Nice examples are the pregnant man, a disco ball or the sensual lips. In addition, with macOS Monterey 12.3 you can now annotate your passwords in iCloud Keychain. You can use this as a reminder for which password you have used for which website. Other password managers have had this option before.
How to install the new macOS
Downloading and installing macOS Monterey 12.3 is quite simple. Especially if you follow the step-by-step plan below. Note: Because the update has only just been released, it may take a while for the update to appear. In the meantime, you can already make a backup of your Mac. Then try again. Is the update available? Then follow the step-by-step plan:
- Open the System Preferences panel;
- Click on the ‘Software Update’ button;
- Wait for macOS Monterey 12.3 to arrive and click ‘Update’;
- Wait for the download to complete and follow the steps.
Do not freak out! Your Mac will reboot (several times) during the update. That is why it is smart to save your files and open documents in advance and to have enough storage space available. It is also useful to hang your MacBook on a charger, so that it does not fail in the middle of the update.
