Download macOS Ventura: this is how you do it
The new macOS Ventura was announced back in June, but we can finally install the big Mac update then. The operating system succeeds macOS Monterey and brings several new features to your Mac. There is also a change in the design.
Before you start installing macOS Ventura, we recommend that you back up your Mac. The chance that something goes wrong during the installation is small, but this way you know for sure that you can still go back. Also make sure you have enough storage space available.
This is how you download macOS Ventura:
- Click on the at the top left and choose ‘System Preferences’;
- Click on the ‘Software Update’ button;
- Wait for macOS Monterey to appear here and click “Update”;
- Wait for the download to complete and follow the steps on the screen.

- MacBook Air (2018 and newer)
- MacBook Pro (2017 and newer)
- Mac mini (2018 and newer)
- iMac (2017 and newer)
- iMac Pro (2017 and newer)
- Mac Pro (2019 and newer)
- Mac Studio (2022)
macOS Ventura: the new features
The new macOS Ventura brings all kinds of new features to the Mac. A striking feature is Stage Manager. This is a new way to manage your windows. Via the Control Center you activate the mode, which groups your apps and windows in a special view. The feature has also made its way to iPadOS 16.
Another notable change is System Preferences, which is now called System Settings. The new name comes with a major redesign, bringing the look more in line with the Settings app of the iPhone and iPad.
Furthermore, the standard apps have been updated. In Ventura it is possible to revoke a sent mail with the Mail app. And if you send an email without an attachment, the app will warn you. New in Safari are Shared Tab Groups, which sync open tabs to everyone’s device.
Another great feature of macOS Ventura is Continuity Camera. This allows you to use your iPhone as a webcam for your Mac. This improves the quality of your video calls, and is also a welcome feature for Mac users with an external display without a camera.
