Liver wraps are an old home remedy that is intended to support the treatment of liver diseases and often accompanies fasting cures, for example by Buchinger. Here, liver wraps should help to “detoxify” the liver – this is wrong, because the liver itself is a “detoxification organ” that you do not have to “detox”.
You can simply make a liver wrap using a hot water bottle and two towels yourself. However, the effect of the home remedy is not sufficiently proven.
The liver: not just an engift organ
The liver is the largest of our inner organs and responsible for many essential body processes. It is not only important to excrete toxins from the organism, but is also involved in the metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates. It also stores excess glucose as well as vitamins and trace elements, which she later provides the body available.

- A small towel or a washcloth
- A large towel
So you turn liver wraps
The use of liver wraps is very simple:
- Cook water for the hot water bottle. Let it cool about 10 minutes before you fill it, otherwise the liver wrap on the skin could be too hot.
- Then moisten the small towel or the washcloth with hot water and then turn it out so that it doesn’t drip.
- Lay comfortably on your back and place the moist towel on your right upper abdomen – where the liver is.
- Put the hot water bottle on the wet towel and then wrap the upper abdomen as tightly as possible with the larger towel, so that no air gets on the wrap.
- It is best to cover yourself with a warm wool blanket or duvet, relax and let the liver wrap work for 20 to 30 minutes before you remove it.
Liver wrap: important information
You can use the liver wrap as often as you like. The best time is in the evening because you can often sleep particularly well after use.
Tip: Do you have the feeling that a cold or another infection will be on? Then this is a good opportunity to make a liver wrap. The wrap should support your immune system and therefore help to prevent slight diseases from being created.
A liver wrap is not recommended for fever, acute breeze infections and menstruation. You should also obtain medical advice for chronic diseases and long -term medication before using.
