Many more second-hand cars will be sold in 2023

In 2023, many more second-hand cars will be sold than in the previous year. This and more is evident from reporting from Automotive Online, which is based on figures from data supplier VWE Automotive.

Although second-hand cars were rarely as expensive as in 2023, that year did see a significant increase in used car sales. Private individuals bought a total of 1.39 million used cars from car companies, more than 14 percent more than a year earlier. This large percentage increase can easily be explained. In 2022, the demand for second-hand cars was enormous due to the difficulty in delivering new cars. This also resulted in high used car prices.

Volkswagen is by far the most popular brand on the second-hand market, it appears. Of the almost 1.4 million used cars that car companies sold to private individuals, no fewer than 163,000 were Volkswagens. It leaves Peugeot (almost 96,000 cars) in second place. The top 5 also consists of Opel, Ford and Renault.

The used car market obviously does not only consist of car companies that sell cars. After all, private individuals also sell cars to each other. In 2023, private individuals will sell more than seven percent more second-hand cars than in 2022.

Have you also bought a second-hand car in 2022?
