Test criteria for mattresses
The quality of your mattress affects your sleep. A good mattress adapts to your body in the lying position so that the body tissue is not pressed at the center of gravity. In addition, you should not sink too deep into the mattress, as this restricts freedom of movement and disturbs sleep. Generally it is important that the mattress free from pollutants is because you spend a few hours on it every day.
While Eco test primarily evaluates lying comfort and pollution, flow in the Stiftung Warentest also the durability and aspects related to purchase and transport of the mattress. More precisely:
Eco test evaluates the criteria …
- Flexural elasticity
- Point elasticity
- Shoulder zone effect
- Body zone support as well
- the exposure to questionable substances
Considered in comparison Stiftung Warentest …
- Lying properties
- durability
- reference
- handling
- Declaration and advertising
- However, pollution also plays a role in more recent tests – under the heading “Health and Environment”.
During the last mattress test by Eco test a few years ago, the most recent results come from Stiftung Warentest from 2018, 2019 and last 2021.
For ecological reasons and because of the possible pollution from synthetic materials, we generally recommend that you use mattresses made of natural latex (= Natural rubber) or coconut latex.
