McLaren shows new platform

McLaren is conjuring up a new platform for future cars. That is an important piece of technology, because from now on McLaren can better cope with batteries for electrified powertrains!

The electric ax is hanging over everyone’s head, also with McLaren. It is therefore high time to prepare the next generation of sports cars for some electric power. The whole new platform, with a pure focus on hybrid powertrains, has been developed from A to Z by McLaren’s own technicians in McLaren’s Composites Technology Center. Besides the fact that the new construction offers space for a few batteries, McLaren made it lighter and safer.

With the introduction of the platform, McLaren immediately dropped when the British sports brand comes with a new electrified model. The first hybrid McLaren on this new platform is on the agenda for 2021. CEO Mike Flewitt sees this new piece of technology as the link between the current generation of cars with only combustion engines and fully electric cars. In addition, he actually also secretly says that we do not have to wait for a fully electric McLaren for the time being. Where it once started with the hybrid P1, McLaren remains committed to hybrid powertrains.
