Since Watchos 26 it is possible to measure your blood pressure with your Apple Watch. Curious how you do that? That’s how the function works!
Measure blood pressure with the Apple Watch
Apple released no fewer than three new Apple Watches in 2025! The Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the Apple Watch SE 3 have been in stores since Friday 19 September. The Apple Watch Series 11 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 are equipped with a new health function, because these smartwatches can measure your blood pressure. They are the first Apple Watches with a blood pressure monitor.
Do you have an older Apple Watch? In that case we have good news, because the blood pressure monitor also comes to earlier models. The new health function is part of Watchos 26, the largest software update of the year for the Apple Watch. Have you installed Watchos 26? In that case your Apple Watch can measure your blood pressure. We explain how the function works and how you switch it on.

This is how the blood pressure monitor works
From Watchos 26 your Apple Watch registers your blood pressure, so that the smartwatch can give notifications with a long -term high blood pressure. The Apple Watch uses an optical sensor for measuring blood pressure. These measure how your blood vessels react to beating your heart. All measurement data of a period of thirty days are analyzed to determine whether there is high blood pressure. For that you have to switch on the health function, you do that as follows:
- Open the ‘health’ app on your iPhone;
- Tap your profile photo at the top right of the screen;
- Go to ‘Health SCHECTLIST’;
- Choose ‘configure’ under ‘hypertension reports’;
- Set the reports according to the steps on the screen.
Measuring blood pressure on the Apple Watch is only available with users aged 22 and older. Apple has indicated that the blood pressure monitor is also only suitable for users who have no past with high blood pressure and for users who are not pregnant. You cannot perform precise measurement with the Apple Watch yourself, instead the smartwatch gives a warning with a long -term high blood pressure.

More about Watchos 26
According to Apple, a long -term high blood pressure, also called hypertension, is one of the main causes of a heart attack, stroke or kidney disease. There are often no symptoms with high blood pressure, so that the condition remains regularly. Apple changes that with Watchos 26, because the Apple Watch can then measure your blood pressure and keeps a log of all blood pressure measurements. This logbook can be found in the Health app on your iPhone and iPad.
The Apple Watch needs thirty days to measure your blood pressure and perform an analysis. Only after this period can you receive notifications for a long -term high blood pressure. Do you get a notification for high blood pressure? Then it is recommended to make an appointment with the doctor. In Watchos 26, for example, Apple adds another important health function.
