Spy shots Mercedes-AMG CLE

The brand new Mercedes-Benz CLE has already been presented as a Coupé and a Cabriolet and both versions have already been assigned a number of powertrains. The AMG versions are not available yet, but they will of course come. We can now show you the CLE Coupé as 53 AMG and the Cabriolet as 63 AMG.

Mercedes-Benz CLE fills the gap of not one, but two models. The Coupé and Cabriolet flavors of both the previous C- and E-class are followed in that single model. The C-class only gets four-cylinder engines and this also applies to the AMG versions. In addition to four-cylinders, the E-class will be available with six-cylinders. And what about the CLE? Motorically, it follows the path of the E-class.

Round pipes under the milder AMG…

When the CLE was introduced, Mercedes-Benz immediately announced the arrival of machines with four and six cylinders. This means that the AMG versions of the CLE will most likely not be four-cylinders. At least, not all. In these photos we see the CLE not only as a Coupé and a Cabriolet, but also with two different AMG drivetrains. One less intense than the other.

..and trapezoidal among the thickest!

For years you have recognized the absolute top of the AMG series by the trapezoidal pipes at the bottom of the buttocks. In this case you will find it under the CLE Cabriolet in these photos. This appears to be the AMG 63 variant. The CLE Coupé has a set of double round exhaust tips on either side of the rear bumper. This is probably the CLE 53. The CLE 450 already has a 381 hp (+23 hp EQ Boost) strong 3.0 six-cylinder. The CLE 53 will be well above that. The AMG 53 variant of the AMG GT 4-Door, among others, already produces 435 hp. It could well be that the CLE 53 AMG will also get that power.

How powerful will the AMG 63 versions be? We don’t know that for sure yet either. We don’t see a tailgate like the plug-in hybrid C 63 SE Performance, although Mercedes-Benz could keep it hidden under the stickers. The CLE 63 could therefore become a plug-in with a four-cylinder engine, although it is not inconceivable that the top AMG version will also simply have a six-cylinder engine.
