In November, Mercedes-Benz presented the fierce AMG 63 and 63 S flavors of the then-fresh GLE and now also its sportier-lined brother, the GLE Coupé, has those two AMG versions.
Both of the most powerful flavors of the GLE Coupé range will receive the now-known 4.0-liter biturbo V8 as a power station, an eight-cylinder engine that is even more powerful in the 63S. In the GLE 63, that machine basically supplies 571 hp and 750 Nm, but thanks to the 48 V system and Mercedes’ EQ Boost starter generator, an additional 22 hp buzzes under certain circumstances. Shifting is through an AMG Speedshift transmission with double clutch and nine gears. A sprint from a standstill to a speed of 100 km / h only takes 4.0 counts. Its top speed: 250 km / h.
More is always better in the world of AMG and so the GLE 63 S with its 612 hp and 850 Nm is even more powerful than the regular GLE 63. This AMG variant, which also benefits from the 22 EQ Boost-hp, rumbles in 3 , Count 8 to 100 km / h and has a top speed of 280 km / h. That top speed is also achievable for the non-S, although you have to pay extra for the Drivers Package.
On the outside, the GLE 63s can be distinguished from their milder brothers and sisters by their chrome grille with vertical bars, a typical AMG characteristic. The new bonnet with strong curves, the sportier-looking bumper work, the quadrilateral exhaust tailpipes and the large 20- to 22-inch light alloy are landmarks. Inside, Mercedes-AMG not only installs sports pedals, but also sports seats. A new Supersport theme can be chosen for the digital instruments, which includes a G-force meter and a stopwatch.
Other well-known AMG herbs come in the form of adaptive air suspension with stabilizers (AMG Active Ride Control) that must prevent the carriage from sloping. The steering is, according to Mercedes-Benz, a lot more direct. The Germans install extra powerful brakes and Mercedes-AMG gives the GLEs a new driving mode that can be selected via AMG Dynamic Select: Race. Even now, the 4Matic system is able to send all power to the rear axle.
Prices and other specific information for the Dutch market will follow soon.
