Mercedes-AMG GLS is the most pointless SUV

The German environmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe will soon visit Mercedes-Benz with a real prize, but whether they should be happy with that in Stuttgart is the question …

The environmental organization conducted a survey of 18,000 people to find out which car they think is the most ecologically pointless. The ‘winner’ takes off with the ‘Goldener Geier’, or the Gouden Gier. Five cars took part: BMW X7, Range Rover Sport SVR, Audi Q7 (plug-in), Volkswagen Amarok and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

With its 612 hp 4.0-liter V8 and 2,500 kg in the scales, a third of the votes go to the Mercedes GLS and specifically to the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic +. With this 5.2 meter long SUV this year takes the prize. This is evident from reports of the AD. The environmentalists were especially critical of the aforementioned figures and touched on the 288 grams of CO2 / km and argue for a stop to the sale of such SUVs. “These gigantic SUVs are extremely damaging to the climate and do not fit in our cities,” the organization said. “Manufacturers are promoting these climate killers with huge budgets because they are said to be indispensable to the ‘urban lifestyle.”

Last year, the Gouden Gier went to Nestlé for the excessive use of plastic packaging.
