The longer you have to wait for something, the better once it’s done. We hope this applies at least to the Mercedes-AMG One. Our patience is now almost rewarded.

The Mercedes-AMG One is a project that people at Mercedes may now also think of themselves: ‘If only we had never started it’. No less than four years ago, it already showed an apparently production-ready concept version, but now the actual car is still not there. And that while the AMG One was already sold out in 2017. So that means that the patience of the 275 lucky ones who get one (including F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas) will be put to the test.

Good news: production will finally start for real in 2022! The British report that coach based on a letter received by one of the AMG One buyers. That means Mercedes-AMG is finally over the many challenges that the powertrain posed. The 1.6 V6, originating from Formula 1, is coupled to four electric motors and that together is good for more than 1,000 hp. Quite a job to keep all that cool and that turned out to be more difficult than expected. They also reportedly had difficulty lowering the idle speed to a level that is decent on public roads.

By the time Bottas gets his AMG One, he’s already driving for Alfa Romeo in F1.

The Mercedes-AMG One, which was spotted near the Nürburgring earlier this year, is now – if all goes well – really arriving. Maybe once, if you consider that every customer had to pay almost €3 million for it.
