Memory problems

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has made some remarkable statements to say the least. The Austrian is disappointed with the dominance of Red Bull and Ferrari this season, because this makes Formula 1 ‘not entertaining’.
Whether Toto Wolff is a sore loser or a man with memory problems, the 50-year-old is certainly not happy with the dominance of Red Bull and Ferrari this year. In their own words because of what it does to Formula 1 in general. In conversation with The Independent explains the team boss of the F1 team of Mercedes-AMG: “In my opinion the races are less entertaining this year because there is too big a gap between the teams. Verstappen disappears on the horizon and the Ferraris are the only ones to provide something fun in the race, but we’re in no man’s land behind it. The others behind it are in a DRS train.”
It would indeed be more entertaining if the Formula 1 teams were a bit more evenly matched, from the first to the last team, but it is remarkable that Wolff of all people makes these comments. After all, the acclaimed team boss himself stood at the basis of an era in which only one team went for the title and disappeared on the horizon, namely his own team. Mercedes was completely unbeatable in the early years of the hybrid era and has been able to drive to both the constructors’ and drivers’ titles relatively unscathed from 2014 to 2020. Only in 2017 and 2018 there was a title fight with Ferrari and in 2021 Lewis Hamilton was dethroned by Max Verstappen and Red Bull was close behind Mercedes in second in the teams. Beyond that, Mercedes has been known for years as the most dominant team the sport has seen in a long time or maybe even ever.
