MG carries out a thorough facelift by not dragging on the ZS EV in our country for a short time. The additional session may give the sales of the compact electric crossover a new sales impulse, because the renewed ZS EV is also significantly improved on a technical level.

With the ZS EV, MG shot straight into the sales rose in 2019 and 2020. Of the electric crossover that was brought onto the Dutch market at the end of 2019, 2,180 units left the showroom in the first full year of sales. The ZS EV got off to a flying start, but the sales of the model with which MG returned to the Dutch market after years of absence are no longer what they were. Although MG can attribute some of the declining sales to changed tax rules, it is trying to win back the customer by thoroughly improving the ZS EV.

Standard Range and Long Range

We start with the most important, which is the improved technology of the MG ZS EV. Until now, the electric crossover was only available with a 44.5 kWh battery, good for a range of 263 kilometers (WLTP). That package will be replaced by a 50.3 kWh one that is destined for the MG ZS EV Standard Range. Its electrical lung capacity is 320 WLTP kilometers. Thick 20 percent more driving range, but there is more. MG does not just call the ZS EV with 50.3 kWh battery Standard Range, the brand also comes with a Long Range variant, The MG ZS EV Long Range gets a 70 kWh battery pack in its bottom, good for a WLTP range of 440 kilometers. MG seems to be aiming high on this Long Range variant, because it is the first to come to the Netherlands. Good news: the Long Range has an 11 kW 3-phase on-board charger. That is also a novelty for the ZS EV.

Prices

MG is already releasing the first prizes. The new MG ZS EV Standard Range has a starting price of €30,990 as a basic Comfort version. For the Long Range you should count on a price of €34,990. Please note, these are the fiscal prices, excluding costs for road preparation. The roadworthiness costs for the outgoing version of the ZS EV are €995, so count on about €1,000 extra on the fiscal prices. In addition to the aforementioned Comfort version, there will also be a Luxury flavor. The renewed MG ZS EV will be available at dealers from November.

Amendments

The external changes that MG is making on the ZS EV are probably no longer a surprise for the avid visitor to AutoWeek.nl. More than a year ago we showed you the facelifted version of the regular petrol models of the MG ZS and recently we were able to show you the revised ZS EV on an exclusively obtained patent image. The renewed ZS EV is very similar to the original, but in fact the complete front has been changed. The MG ZS EV has new LED headlights, which are flatter than the old units and from now on have to do without ‘biting’. Another major change: the grille is no longer a ‘closed version’ of the grille of the ZS with combustion engines, but a completely unique copy that now forms one whole with the also new front bumper. From now on, the tailgate is no longer behind the MG logo, but to the left of it. The EV version takes more distance from its conventional brothers and sisters in terms of design.

MG also mounts a new rear bumper on the back of the facelifted ZS EV, although it is the LED taillights with a completely new light signature that attract attention here. Also new: the MG logo, like the one on the front, is largely in blue.

Like MG’s new electric top model, the Marvel R Electric, the MG ZS EV comes with a digital instrument panel as standard. In the center console is also a new infotainment system, with a 10.1 instead of 8 inch copy, on which MG’s iSmart system runs. As with the Marvel R Electric, V2L (Vehicle to Load) is also part of the standard equipment, which means that in addition to devices such as laptops, you can also recharge electric bicycles and even other electric cars.

More technical specifications and information about the versions will follow soon.
