Electric cars already come in various shapes and sizes, but you cannot yet buy an electric station wagon in the Netherlands. Not yet. MG will bring the 5 Electric to our country at the beginning of next year, about which the brand is now releasing more information.
MG is engaged in a major European offensive. After the ZS EV, which has now been thoroughly renovated, the brand brought the plug-in hybrid EHS Plug-in Hybrid to our country and soon you can also go for a larger electric SUV from the brand: the Marvel R Electric. It does not stop there, MG will put the 5 Electric in the showrooms in the first quarter of 2022. The MG5 Electric, MG sticks the 5 to the brand name, will soon be the first electric station wagon that you can buy in the Netherlands. It’s an interesting one on paper too.

MG has already announced that the 5 Electric will have a starting price of less than €30,000 in the Netherlands. This puts it one step below the updated ZS EV on the price list. The MG5 Electric is an electric station wagon with a luggage compartment of 479 liters. Strikingly, MG previously communicated that the 5 Electric could swallow 578 liters. If you flatten the back seat, you can store up to 1,400 liters in the car. There are more numbers just a little different. For example, the MG5 Electric gets a 156 hp and 260 Nm strong electric motor, instead of a copy with 184 hp and 280 Nm.

Now the key question: what is the range of the MG5 Electric? It depends! MG will first market the station wagon with a 61.1 kWh battery pack, with which it could achieve a range of 400 kilometers (WLTP). Later, MG will also bring a version with a smaller 50.3 kWh package to our country. With this, the MG5 Electric will travel 320 kilometers. Regardless of the battery pack, the electric station wagon is equipped with an 11 kW 3-phase charger. The MG5 Electric is 4.54 meters long, which makes it slightly smaller than the Volkswagen Golf Variant (+9 centimeters) and Ford Focus Wagon (+12 centimeters).
