Microsoft Edge for macOS is quite similar to the Windows version. The company does say that it has slightly modified the appearance, so that it looks more like other Mac apps. Since Edge is built with Chromium, you can download apps from the Chrome store. That’s handy, because it has millions of extensions in-house.

Focus on privacy

Microsoft focuses on improving privacy with Edge. For example, the browser blocks trackers by default. This makes it more difficult for advertisers, data traders and other shadowy figures to watch what you do online. The default search engine is Bing, Microsoft’s alternative to Google.

A special Internet Explorer function is also available. This ensures that old websites that have not been updated for years still look good. Microsoft promises to update the browser regularly and provide new features. Also, of course, the macOS version syncs with the Edge app for iOS.

Safari also blocks trackers

You can also stop trackers from tracking you in Safari. To do this, dive into the Settings app on your iPhone, after which you select ‘Safari’. Then scroll down and slide the switch next to ‘Prevent Tracking’. On your Mac, first open Safari, then choose Preferences. Then select the above option.
