Mini elevates ‘mascot’ Spike to a digital sidekick. According to the brand, we see Spike on screen a lot in the upcoming new model family of the brand.

Spike has been a kind of mascot since the introduction of the reborn, modern version, according to Mini. In the Netherlands we don’t get too much of that, but according to Mini, this bulldog is inextricably linked to the brand. ‘Spike’ is now transformed into a digital assistant, somewhat comparable to the robot Nomi that can be found on the dashboard in Nio’s cars. Don’t worry: Mini doesn’t seem to go that far. Spike limits his view to the screen and plays the role of a Mini Intelligent Personal Assistant there. It therefore seems to be a Nomi, Alexa or Google Assistant-like role, where you can call questions to the digital dog at will.

The new version of Spike will be shown for the first time at the Shanghai auto show later this month. For the time being, he is in the previously presented Mini Concept Aceman (where Spike previously sat in the back seat), so a concept car. In the near future, however, the digital dog will be used in new Mini production models. Quite a few of these are on the way, because Mini will introduce a completely new model family in the coming years. For example, the three-door will become the Mini Cooper, there will be a new Countryman and the Aceman will end in a smaller, fully electric crossover. Unfortunately, there will not be a new Clubman, because that model seems to disappear completely.
