Miracle of slime mold

Miracle of slime mold

Photo: Andreas Witt

For the best pictures you sometimes just have to grab the opportunities that everyday life offers. So did our reader Andreas Witt. While his daughter was spending time in the riding stables, he used the free hours to roam the surrounding woods. At the Faulbach in Cologne-Buchheim on the right bank of the Rhine, he came across this slime mold, a fascinating organism. Witt says: “The October sun was just favorable and made the mushroom shine brightly. Fortunately I had my macro lens with me and was able to take a close-up, which also shows the filamentous structure of the mushroom. “
