On a known basis
Mitsubishi is in a kind of bridging phase in Europe, but new models are on the way. Really new models, so no Renaults with the Mitsubishi logo. Yet there is of course a connection with Renault and now the plans are becoming more concrete.
Mitsubishi promised at the beginning of this year that it will launch sixteen new models worldwide within five years. There are probably also interesting newcomers for Europe. There are at least two fully electric models on an ‘alliance basis’, i.e. on a platform that Mitsubishi shares with Renault and Nissan, at least one of which seems to belong here in Europe.
None other than Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo does so Autonews now reveals that it is an SUV-like car and that it is on the alliance’s CMF-EV base. That means it is a direct relative of cars like the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric, Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric and the Nissan Ariya. The Mitsubishi will also be built here in Europe, by Ampere, Renault’s new EV branch.
It is still unclear what the yet unnamed electric Mitsubishi will look like and when it will appear. In any case, we can expect more information next year, it is understood Autonews of the brand. Mitsubishi recently presented the Xforce pictured above this article, a new compact SUV for Asian markets, and we may see some design influences in the EV intended for us.
