A new marine protection area is to be built in front of the northwest coast of Mallorca. The concept for this differs fundamentally from previous approaches and is very supported by the local population – even from the professional fishermen.

At five in the morning, the world may not be in order for everyone, but Gori Mayol does not seem to make up the work in an hour. Supported by his assistant Toni Ruiz, the fisherman loosens the lines with routine movements and the two prepare the boat for the departure. The “Passador” is an almost eight meter long, converted “Lllaüt” – the traditional vehicle Mallorcan fishermen.
Mayol starts the engine. A few minutes later, the barge slides through the almost mirror -smooth harbor to the Bay of Port de Sóller. Nothing stirs on the luxury yachts on the main pier. A few hundred meters further, the “Passador” meets the first waves that are open
