The days of unlimited speeding on stretches of highway in Germany are not yet numbered, but by now a majority of Germans would be in favor of a maximum speed on the Autobahn. However, the intended new government coalition does not want this.
In recent years, more and more calls have been made for the introduction of a maximum speed limit in Germany. Especially the Greens, who are now sitting at the formation table, are working hard for this. However, the liberals of the FDP, who hope to form a governing coalition with the election winner SPD and the Greens, are against it. There is also still division among the German population, although a majority is now in favor of a speed limit.
That appears according to ARD from a survey the medium set up. 60 percent of those surveyed say a resounding ‘yes’ to a speed limit. This should then be at 130 km/h. The environment and climate are cited as the main reasons for limiting the here and there unlimited speed on the Autobahn. For the time being, however, they are getting zero claims. In a first presentation of the coalition negotiations, the three political parties announced that they do not want to introduce a speed limit.
