With your iPhone you can do absolutely everything: communicate with friends and family, keep your diary, play music, watch movies, update your social media, bank, you name it. And let’s be honest, a lot of people also use their phones to play games on them. We would like to give you an overview of the most popular types of games that you can play on your iPhone!
Hypercasual Games
By far the most popular category of games are the “hypercasual” games. These are the simplest and easy to understand games that you can play occasionally for fun, usually in a short session. These games are very accessible to everyone and are perfect to take your mind off things for a few minutes. They use simple gameplay, so you will not have to react intensively and quickly like with other games that we will discuss further. Examples of these hypercasual games are Flappy Bird, Hangaroo, Crossy Road and Fun Race.

Casino games
Casino games such as online slots, poker, Blackjack and the like are also very popular. Just like the hypercasual games, you usually don’t have to think too much about this (unless you’re playing for real money!), and you can enjoy it in fairly short playing sessions. The range of different casino games is also surprisingly large, because in addition to the well-known options mentioned above, you can also find games such as Keno, Bingo, Aviator, virtual races and Game Shows. What can also add an extra layer of excitement is the fact that you can bet some money on the games, and perhaps make some profit. Thanks to the legalization of the gambling market in the Netherlands, it is easier than ever to start playing at a casino. Depositing and withdrawing money can also be done smoothly. Joren Verdoes from Techopedia, for example, states that it is becoming increasingly easier at casinos to pay by telephone bill on your mobile, thanks to the rise of all kinds of payment apps. Other options include e-wallets, prepaid cards, or even cryptocurrency.
Retro Games
Retro gaming is and remains a very popular subgenre. These games often evoke nostalgic feelings in players, and like the above categories, they are often very simple. Examples include Super Mario, Pokémon and other Nintendo games. The aesthetics and gameplay are old-fashioned, but that’s a crucial part of their charm. To play retro games you may have to download an emulator or look for retro remakes.

Multiplayer Games
While the previous categories were mainly focused on relatively simple solo gameplay, Multiplayer Games such as League of Legends, Fortnite and DOTA2 are a completely different animal. Social interaction with other players is important here, and the gameplay is of a much higher level. You usually can’t just play these games, you will have to really concentrate and develop and use your skills. These types of games bring out a lot more excitement, and you can even participate in tournaments and other rankings. A specific and very popular subgenre within Multiplayer Games are the so-called Battle Royale Games such as PUBG Mobile, where players compete against each other until only one is left standing.
Idle Games
You may not have heard of Idle Games yet, but this genre is becoming increasingly dominant on the market. Examples include AdVenture Capitalist, Egg Inc and Clicker Heroes. Idle Games are also known as “incremental games”, in which you will be rewarded for your “digital progress”. You can do this by collecting resources, upgrading in-game skills and maximizing the efficiency of the internal virtual systems. The gameplay is not very intensive, but Idle Games are nevertheless very addictive and you can often continue playing them indefinitely.
