Motor insurance within the same premium up to € 1,300 more expensive

Depending on their zip code, motorcyclists pay up to € 1,300 per year more for their insurance than others with the same coverage, according to research from Kaken.nl. Not only are there clear differences between the provinces, but especially within the same province, the premiums vary enormously.

Motor insurance within the same premium up to € 1,300 more expensive

When insuring your motorcycle, your zip code plays a major role in premium costs. Research from Kaken.nl shows that the Randstad region is considerably more expensive than the rest of the Netherlands. Strikingly enough, motor insurance is the cheapest in the north of the Netherlands, where many motorcyclists live.

The most expensive provinces for motor insurance:
1. Utrecht
2. Noord-Holland
3. South Holland
4. Brabant
5. Gelderland

Cheapest provinces:
1. Friesland
2. Overijssel
3. Zeeland
4. Drenthe
5. Groningen

However, according to KOKE.nl, the differences are also enormous within the provinces, whereby the differences in the province of Noord-Holland are the largest, followed by Utrecht and Zuid-Holland.

As an example, a 25-year-old motorcyclist with 2 damage-free years is cited, who paid a WA+ premium per month for a Yamaha MT-07 of € 127 in Amsterdam, € 50 in Haarlem and € 18 in Middenbeemster. Either a price difference of € 109 per month for exactly the same WA+ insurance, € 1,308 per year.

The differences are not only great for young motorcyclists with little experience and claim -free years, but also for experienced motorcyclists. For example, a 53-year-old motorcyclist with 6 claim-free years for the same MT-07 pays a premium of € 50 (Amsterdam), € 20 (Haarlem) and € 7 (Middenbeemster) per month.

In Utrecht, Kako.nl even came across a situation in which a motorcyclist in the center of Utrecht paid € 38 per month, while only 4 kilometers away the premium is € 20 lower. In other provinces, such as Friesland and Drenthe, the differences are much smaller, often no more than a few euros per month.

Not only your place of residence, but also the insurer you choose, strongly determines the amount of your premium. At the same address the difference between the cheapest and most expensive insurer can amount to € 100 per month. It therefore pays to compare insurers properly.

Additional research shows that motorcycle insurance has even greater premium differences than car insurance policies. Where car insurance policies differ a few tens per month per province, motor insurance can be more than € 100 per month more expensive in a city.

Motor premiums rise faster in the Randstad in particular. According to Kaken.nl, this is due to a combination of higher claims burden, theft sensitivity and insurers who want to take less risk in urban areas.
