Apple has released many improved products in 2023, but for me the Apple Watch SE 2022 is still at the top. Especially because of the excellent price/performance ratio!
Apple Product of the Year 2023: Apple Watch SE 2022
No, this is not a new Apple Watch. But it is still my Apple Product of the Year 2023. There was no new Apple Watch SE released in 2023, which means the 2022 version is still your best bet. Compared to the regular Apple Watch versions, you do have to make a few concessions, but they are certainly not insurmountable. There are slightly fewer sensors built in and you have to make do without an always-on display. But the most important functions can also be found on the Apple Watch SE 2022.
It is mainly my Apple product of the year 2023 because you can buy this Apple Watch for 259 euros, or even slightly cheaper if you come across a good offer. It’s your cheapest option if you want to buy an Apple Watch. Ok, the predecessor from 2020 is slightly cheaper, but there is a difference between the two versions that justifies the few extra tenners.
Apple Watch SE 2022 vs Apple Watch SE 2020
Actually, there are more similarities than differences between both Apple Watch SE versions. They are almost the same size and weight (the 2022 version is a fraction lighter), and they have the same screen. For the differences we have to look at the inside.
And there are still similarities there: 32 GB of storage space, 1 GB of RAM and exactly the same sensors. But there are also a few differences. For example, there is a more modern Bluetooth version and the GPS has been improved. But the most important difference is the Apple S8 chip (the 2020 version has an Apple S5 chip). That is the same chip as in the Apple Watch Series 8 and that makes a big difference in the user experience.
The Apple Watch SE 2022 is available in different variations: with a 40 or 44 mm screen, with or without 4G (cellular), and in black, silver or white gold. Of course, there are also a large number of different straps to choose from.
Probably a new version in 2024
As mentioned, no new Apple Watch SE will be released in 2023. We do expect a new one to come onto the market in 2024. You may decide to wait for this Apple Watch SE 2024 or Apple Watch SE 3, but until then, the Apple Watch SE 2022 is certainly an excellent option. Check out the deals below for the best price!
