Apple products have become more future-proof due to the use of better chips. That’s why the 2024 MacBook Air is my product of the year 2025.
The MacBook Air (2024) is my product of the year
I lasted a long time with the last MacBook Air that still had to make do with an Intel chip. At the time I had long doubts about the purchase. I had been working on Chromebooks for quite some time, which are known for their low price tags. Apple is not known for that. Still, I took the plunge with the idea: Apple products will remain good and relevant for a long time.
Then Apple came up with the M1 chip. This chip turned out to be a game changer, because MacBooks became faster and had a much longer battery life. Still, I refused to switch for a long time. I would get everything I could out of this Intel-powered laptop.
Even while I had to install an app to make typing with the disgusting butterfly keyboard somewhat bearable. And even in recent years I had to have a maximum of a few tabs open at the same time otherwise the device would have a stroke.

M3 chip
I persevered for five years, but at the end of 2024 it was time for the MacBook Air, which now has an M3 chip. It was like I could breathe again while working. Every day I worked with this laptop last year I was grateful for this decision.
Besides the fact that the device is smooth as butter and the keyboard actually types the letters I touch (not unimportant for a journalist who writes all day long), it is also the battery that impresses. It may be because I mainly compare the performance with my previous MacBook, which had to groan and moan to find a charging point after an hour of browsing, but the fact is that with such an M3 chip you can go on and on and on.
Of course, there is now an M4 chip in the MacBook Air, but there is no reason to purchase that device if you already have an M3 chip. Even with an M2 chip or an M1 chip, there is little wrong with the laptop in your hands.
Repairability
I think that is a very nice development. Apple now makes its products so well that you rarely have to buy anything new. At least: I can’t see into the future, so who knows what innovation the company will introduce in a few years that will force you to upgrade again. You also have to be careful with it, because the repairability of these devices is still very disappointing.
I hope that everyone who still has an Intel chip in their MacBook will allow themselves to finally make this upgrade. It really doesn’t have to be the latest version with an M4 chip, but an older edition on sale or second-hand is still more than worth it. Especially if you still have a butterfly keyboard. Life is hard enough. Curious about the lowest prices of the MacBook Air 2024? View them in our price comparator, so you never pay too much:
