NAIAS canceled, alternative event

Due to the pandemic, the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, USA, will not take place this year. A partly replacement event is organized: Motor Bella.

The organization of the NAIAS was forced to cancel the fair last year due to the pandemic. It was then announced in September that the event would from now on take place in September. The time has come in eight months, but unfortunately the organization is already reporting that it will not take place. The reason is, how could it be otherwise, the constant uncertainty about the course of the pandemic. In 2021, there will be no NAIAS in Detroit, but an alternative car show will take place there in the form of Motor Bella.

Motor Bella, which opens its ‘doors’ from September 21-26, is an open-air auto show. The M1 Concourse, a large area including a race track and a large car park, forms the theater of Motor Bella. The show halls that are there will remain closed as far as is known. An outdoor event would be easier to organize in the light of the pandemic.

On September 21 there will first be a press moment, followed by the show itself. This includes demonstrations on the track, but manufacturers will also exhibit their latest cars and technologies. Obviously it will not be as big a story as the NAIAS, but the organization still expects that there will be some firsts. We probably don’t have to expect the really big revelations from the big brands; they are probably done digitally anyway. For the time being, the NAIAS must take place again in 2022.
